Heartbreak Hotel

C’est au mois de mai 2018, après de nombreuses années d’absence, que j’ai passé quelques jours sur l’île de Terschelling, située dans ma région natale sur le littoral de la Mer du Nord.

A l’est de l’île, dans un bar tout droit sorti des années cinquante, je prenais un verre en soirée. Non loin de moi, ce couple d’adolescent attirait mon regard. Isolés dans leur univers, occupant malgré eux ce moment suspendu, ils allaient révéler une poésie latente, provoquant ainsi cette série d’images.

Heartbreak Hotel

In May 2018, I returned for the first time in many years to the island of Terschelling in the Netherlands, on the North Sea, near to where I grew up.

One night, I was having a drink in a 1950s style beach bar on the eastern coast of the island when a teenaged couple caught my attention. They were clearly lost in their own world, totally oblivious to their surroundings. Watching them opened my eyes to the innate draw of a moment and spurred me to take these images.
